Friends and supporters of the Neighbourhood Project turned out in force for a Curry Night at the the Chilli Hut restaurant in Albion Street.  They were joined by the new Mayor of Cheltenham (far left).

The food was delicious and not only was the event greatly enjoyed by all who attended but the evening raised £500 towards the work of the Project.

'Street Doctor' comes to Whaddon Tuesday, May 06, 2008

Claude Bullingham has his blood pressure taken by Tewkesbury GP Dr Jeremy Welch.

Is this the answer to Oakley's lack of GP facilities?  Dr Welch provided a 'drop in' surgery at the Oakley 'Big Day Out' event.  With no current prospect of GP services moving into the area, this could be the answer to the community's demands for GP care nearer to people's homes.

Oakley 'Big Day Out' Monday, May 05, 2008

A great day out in Oakley on Bank Holiday Monday was organised by Trinity Church as the culmination of lots of activity and project work in the area by teams of volunteers from Trinity.

Now you know who we are!  The painting of the railings has still to be completed.

At last - the keys to the door! Friday, January 04, 2008

Oakley Community Resource Centre, New Year 2008 - at last Kevin has the keys (top row, second, left) and is able to unlock the door on a whole new era.  Neighbourhood Project staff and volunteers moved everything across from Wymans Road into 113A Clyde Crescent in the first week of 2008.  There are still lots of boxes and files to sort through, but the computers are up and running - thanks to IT experts from Kohler Mira - and bookings are again being taken for health service appointments (bottom row, second right).

Exhaustion finally begins to set in (bottom row, far right).

Football Tournament - Finals Day Sunday, August 26, 2007

Warm sunshine and blue skies provided a welcome background to Finals Day of the five-a-side Junior Football Tournament on Bank Holiday Sunday.  Families and supporters turned out to cheer the teams on.  Winners were presented later in the day with their medals and trophies by Cheltenham MP, Martin Horwood (see centre row), after referee John Hunt and his son had performed the difficult task of sorting out all the prizes (Centre row, far L).

(Bottom row, centre)
Claude Bullingham looks a very happy man after a job well done, and after Martin had congratulated and thanked him - on  behalf of everyone - for organising his eighth successful summer football tournament.

(Top row) The first three photos (L to R) show players - and Claude - holding some of the Fair Trade footballs which were donated to the tournament by the 'Care & Share' Shop at the Cornerstone Centre.

New Resource Centre looking good Friday, August 24, 2007

The new Resource Centre is really taking shape and looking good - in spite of all the set-backs due to bad weather.  Completion will probably be towards the end of November.

Junior Football Tournament - Week 2 Thursday, August 02, 2007

Well over 100 young players - boys and girls - turned up for the second week of the Junior Football Tournament.  Many had brought family supporters along too.

Claude Bullingham (far left), with clipboard, is again running the event - now in its eighth year - and  Pat, Maggie and Doreen (far right, L to R ) are in charge of vital refreshments.  Progress on the new Resource Centre in the background (photos 2 & 4) can be seen clearly from the playing field.

Play Rangers are back! Monday, July 30, 2007

News soon got round that the Play Rangers were back in Clyde Crescent Park, and Richard and Mandy produced lots of interesting goodies from the back of the van (far left).

A Sunday morning in Whaddon Road Sunday, July 29, 2007

It's not what you would expect to see parked outside Whaddon Lodge on a Sunday morning.  The large RAF water tanker in Whaddon Road was bringing welcome additional supplies into the area.

On Thursday 19 July the sun shone in Clyde Crescent Wednesday, July 25, 2007

The sun shone brightly in Clyde Crescent on Thursday 19 July.  With blue skies and the beautiful Cotswold hills in the backgound, the new building was well and truly taking shape and looking good - thanks to all the hard work of the main contractors Beard as well as Quattro Design Architects.   Everyone was very pleased with progess.  There was even a new sign up outside the site giving details about the new Centre (bottom row, third left).

However, on Friday 20 July heavy rain and flooding completely changed the happy mood of the previous day (see News page).

'Widders in Whaddon' Sunday, July 15, 2007

Before a tour of  Whaddon Children's Centre, Ann Widdecombe and Mark Coote were shown the Clyde Crescent 'Carnival' mural by Maddie Clayton, Chair of Oakley Regeneration Partnership, clutching tartan umbrella (far left).  Centre Manager Tina McGrath (centre, second photo left) showed Ann and Mark around the building, including the 'soft' play room.  Within minutes, Ann had taken her shoes off and was in there having great fun.

New Oakley Community Resource Centre roof goes on Tuesday, July 03, 2007

The roof on the new Resource Centre is now in place - just as well, looking at the storm clouds gathering behind the building!

Painting in Clyde Crescent Monday, June 04, 2007

With only a minimal amount of sunshine over three days during half-term, young people braved rain, wind and hail to complete the painting of the hoardings round the Clyde Crescent site .  The theme of the painting was 'Carnival', and the results were spectacular.  Congratulations to everyone involved - especially the team in the final photo.

Lots of fun at Oakley Fun Day Friday, June 01, 2007

(Photos courtesy of Cheltenham Borough Homes)

Birds of prey, painted faces, stilts, super raffle, and lots of games were all in evidence at the Oakley Fun Day.  As Kevin and Claude masterminded the raffle (far right), was that Karen from the Neighbourhood Project negotiating the floor hoops with a hockey stick (third from left)?
